Victoria University Administrative Staff Strike, VC Replaced
By Serestino Tusingwire
The academic administrative staff of Victoria University has reportedly gone on a sit down strike over yet to be known issues.
According to the chairperson of the university council, David Matovu, the acting Vice Chancellor, Faculty Deans and Heads of Departments resolved not to report to work effective November 1, 2016.
He noted that consequently, they have breached their contract of employment and constructively dismissed themselves from the university services.
According to the statement released on November 3, 2016, the University Council decided to replace these defiant administrators immediately.
“The University Council therefore appoints Mr. Joseph Nyakana who is the University registrar to serve as the acting Vice Chancellor until further notice.”
He however concludes by assuring the general public that the services of the University will not be disrupted.
