Uganda’s Masambu Voted Head Of Global Telecom Satellite Body

Patrick Masambu was on Thursday voted the Director General for International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO), replacing Portugal’s Jose Manuel do Rosario Toscano

Uganda’s Musambu who has been the deputy director of the organization was voted to the full charge during the 37th ITSO Assembly of Parties (AP-37) meeting in Washington DC in USA.

ICT Minister Frank Tumwebaze who led the Ugandan delegation to United States disclosed that Masambu won with 72 votes out of 149, beating France and Spain.

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) boss Eng Godfrey Mutabazi recently said Masambu’s election bid was based on his “significant contributions to ITSO top level decisions and related Satellite industry initiatives, coupled with his visionary leadership qualities, commitment and technical competence.”

The ITSO is an intergovernmental organization charged with overseeing the public service obligations of Intelsat, with its headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Member countries have to be members of United Nations or the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). Currently has 149 member countries including Uganda.
