Besigye, Museveni ‘Unite’ As Uganda Wins First Ever Paralympic Medal


Uganda’s only Paralympic athlete, David Emong has won Silver after coming second in the T46 Men’s class of 1500 m race in the Rio 2016, Paralympic games.

Emong came second with a time of 4:00:62 while Algeria’s Nouioua Samir came first with 3: 59:46. Samir is a seven time Paralympics medalist. Australia’s Roeger Michael came third winning Bronze.

In a rare show of unity, bothe the country’s President Yoweri Museveni and his political nemesis, opposition kingpin, Kizza Besigye congratulated the Paralympic hero.

“Congratulations to Uganda’s David Emong for winning a silver medal in the men’s 1,500m T46 at the ongoing Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Your country is proud of you,” Museveni wrote.Besigye wrote, “Congratulations David Emong!! #Rio2016 Paralympic Silver medalist. First Ugandan Paralympic medal ever! Proud of you.”
