The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has accepted the request by Tanzania and Uganda to have their first leg 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier rescheduled.

Rogers Mulindwa, the Head of Communication of the Ugandan FA told Our reporter that the first leg has now been moved to July 12 in Dar es Salaam instead of the earlier date of July 6.

Mulindwa explained the thinking behind the request as due to the fact that since the regional Cecafa Kagame Club Championships will take place in Sudan will end on July 2, the two Nations thought it would too close for the teams to prepare and agreed to move the match by a week to give them time to prepare for the first leg match.

While Uganda and Tanzania will battle in the central East Zone, the other matches on card include Burundi facing the 2011 hosts Sudan, while Ethiopia take on Rwanda. In 2011 Uganda ejected archrivals Kenya to qualify for the CHAN Championship.

The CHAN qualifiers are played on regional basis with the composition of the finalists as follows: two from North Zone, two from West A Zone, three from West B Zone, three from Central Zone, three from Central East and three from South Zone (including hosts South Africa)

Mulindwa further said since Uganda managed to qualify for the 2011 CHAN event in Sudan, they will work hard to make it to the next event in South Africa.
