A three man Ugandan team is in Glasgow, Scotland to prepare for Team Uganda at the 2014 Commonwealth Games which run July 23 to August 3.

They include Chief-de-Mission, Ambrose Tashobya, Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) administrator Collins Ssemanda and Rachelle Briscoe an intern from Canada who is now the Capacity Support Officer.

Tashobya told this paper before departure that they are moving ahead to make sure that Uganda’s team finds all details in place before the Games begin. He said they will also ensure that uniforms for Team Uganda are delivered in time.

Uganda is expected to send a contingent of 98 98 people including a field of 62 athletes in different sporting disciplines. Uganda will field athletes in rugby, cycling, track and field events, badminton, table rugby, shooting, boxing, squash, table tennis, swimming, Para sports and weightlifting.

Moses Kipsiro, a double gold medalist at the last Commonwealth Games in India is part of Uganda’s team. Vice President Edward Ssekandi will lead the delegation.

However, while speaking to our reporter later, UOC President William Blick said they are yet to receive even half of the money that was earlier released by the government and the deficit of Ugx 347million for clearing the allowances and balance on air tickets.

Blick revealed that they have also not received the Ugx 254 million which had been released by the government. He added that they will work hard in the few days this week to ensure that money comes through because the team could have no allowances at the Games.
