Last weekend curtains fell to the regional qualifying round of the City Tyres U14 Chenga challenge as Kampala hosted the last regional qualifiers at Old Kampala SS.

Five teams that qualified from the five Kampala municipalities were joined by three guest teams Community from Kisenyi and two from Bombo and Entebbe to make the eight that faced off with each wanting to scoop the last spot at the national finals in Masaka later this month.

However it was the Kampala Central team that beat the other seven to the spot after coming from a goal down to defeat Makindye 2-1 in the finals. The team now is set to represent Kampala region at the national finals where the 10 regional winners will battle to become the 2014 City Tyres U14 Chenga challenge national champions from the 28th to 31st   August , 2014 in Masaka.

The regional winners include; Alpha Soccer Academy of  Masaka, Kids of Arua from Arua, Jinja TC U14 of Jinja, True Vine Soccer Academy from Mbale, Mbarara’s Sheema FC, Kitara Unite from Fort Portal, Emma Boys from Kabale, Lugazi’s SCOUL FC among others.

One of the highlights of the qualifiers has been that the tournament sponsors City Tyres and partners Friends of Football (FOF), have had a technical committee identify some outstanding players who are going to be taken on a tour in Rwanda to play friendly games in December.
