Tragedy in NRM as another MP is kicked out of parliament

Soroti High Court has today nullified the election of Serere Woman MP Hellen Adoa (NRM).

Adoa emerged as a winner in the highly contested Serere district woman MP seat in the finished February 2016 general elections beating FDC’s Alice Alaso.

Alaso lost the seat to her longtime competitor, Adoa, in a brutally disputed election in February, by 48,762 votes to 32,651 votes.

She later went to court to quash Adoa’s victory, stating that the election was damaged by voter bribery

In a verdict read by Soroti Chief Magistrate, Ruth Nabaasa, court nullified the election of Adoa in favour of Alaso’s petition on grounds that there was non-compliance of the electoral laws by the 2nd respondent, and ordered for the re-election in Serere district.

Adoa in her response to the ruling said that, she will soon consult her lawyer to decide a way forward.

Adoa becomes the 17th NRM Member of Parliament to be kicked out following different election petitions filed by runners-up from their respective constituencies.
