Suspected Murderer Of Namayingo LC3 Chairman Arrested

A man suspected to be the mastermind of the murder of David Tito Okware, the LC III chairman of Buyinja Sub County in Namayingo district has been arrested.

The suspect Identified as Musa Muko, a resident of Namayingo, was arrested during a joint operation of the police and soldiers of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces – UPDF.

Capt. Denis Jimmy Omara, the UPDF’s 3rd Division Public Relations Officer said Muko was picked from his hideout in Namabasa zone, Namanyonyi Sub County, Mbale district last night.

He has now been transferred to the police flying squad unit in Kampala for interrogation.

Omara explained that the suspect, who still has a bullet wound on his left leg, eluded arrest by a joint force of the police and the army in Namayingo last week before he fled to Mbale. The Police have since been trailing him.

Okware Tito, who also served as the publicity secretary for NRM party in Namayingo district, was shot dead by three gunmen at his home in Namayingo Township on Thursday February 1st 2015.

According to a relative, the three attacked the home at around 9.30 p.m., while the family was having dinner, and asked for Okware who was seated on a plastic chair, among family members.

One of the thugs which the police suspects is Muko, dressed in an overall coat eventually pulled out a rifle and shot Okware four times in the stomach before riding off. He died moments later.

More than ten people have so far been arrested in connection to the killing.

Last week the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura suspended four senior commanders in Busoga North Police region and eight other junior police officers over from Namayingo district over the murder.

They include Moses Muluya, the Regional Police Commander for Busoga North, Fred Tayebwa, Namayingo District Police Commander, Joyce Achiro, officer in charge of Namayingo Central Police Station and Fahadi Naduli, Namayingo District Criminal Investigations Commander.
