State House Impersonator Netted By Police

Soroti Police are holding a man accused of masquerading as a state house operative.

The suspect is Peter Eriaju, a resident of Lubiri cell in Nakatunya ward in Soroti Municipality.

Juma Hassan Nyene, East Kyoga Police spokesperson says the suspect was picked on Monday from his home where he was found with a forged identity card indicating that he is lieutenant and army uniform.

According to Nyene, Eriaju has been using the identity card to hire motorcycles from Boda Boda men, claiming that he is on state house duties.

It is alleged that Eiaju would then duplicate the keys and later steal the motorcycle. According to Nyene, during the operation to arrest the suspect they recovered two motorcycles registration number UDU 406X and UDV 801F from his home.

Nyene says that one of the motorcycles registration numbers UDU 406X bares a different number plate, chassis and engine numbers.

He says they started tracking down the suspect following a tip off by residents that he was involved in dubious deals. Nyene says the suspect is believed to have deserted the army. He says Eriaju will be charged with theft once investigations are complete.
