Police in Nakaseke have arrested an officer attached to the Uganda Police Special Investigations Unit [SIU] at Kireka.
The man identified as Police Constable (PC) Barnet Musiime was arrested for carrying out unauthorised security operations in Nakaseke.
Police sources say Musiime could have been colluding with thieves to rob motorcycles in Nakaseke.
Lameck Kigozi, the Savannah Regional Police publicist, confirms Musiime’s arrest.
Police officers in Kiwoko arrested Musiime after he was spotted acting like a police officer with a Special Machine Gun (SMG) yet he is unknown in the area.
Musiime was arrested on Tuesday and is currently detained at Kiwoko police station.
Kigozi says that Musiime failed to produce documents to show he had been posted in the area.
Musiime claimed that he was carrying out an operation to track down motorcycle (boda boda) thieves.
Kigozi, however, says that they suspect Musiime could have been working with boda boda thieves.
Late December 2014, police in Luweero arrested five suspects including Samuel Wako, Samson Akankwasa, Augustine Muwanguzi, Shaban Kayiira and David Kaweesi, in connection with theft of boda bodas. They were found in possession of a pistol and four motorcycles were recovered.
