The Prison Services have transferred rogue policeman Abudlnoor Semujju aka Minana from Luzira Maximum Security Prison to Makindye Military Barracks for his safety.
Prosecution told the General Court Martial that Minana, 59, a former thug and later informant for the Police’s Flying Squad had encountered many threats to his life from suspects and convicts serving time in Luzira.
Prosecutor Raphael Mugisha pleaded with Court that the transfer be made on safety grounds because Minana could be harmed if he stayed in Luzira on remand.
Court Martial Chairman Lt. Gen. Andrew Guti remanded Minana to Makindye Barracks until March 27 for further mention of his case.
Minana is accused of kidnap, extortion and torture. He is co-accused with other policemen including Nixon Agasirwe who was also transferred from Luzira to Makindye after some of the people he reportedly tortured and had convicted and jailed at Luzira attempted to strangle him in revenge.
It was reported that while on remand at Luzira some of the inmates who had suffered torture at the hands of Agasirwe attempted to strangle him with a towel. Agasirwe was only rescued when prison guards intervened Agasirwe and Minana are accused of kidnapping dissidents from a neighboring country and forcefully returning them to the country they had originally fled from.
They are also accused of torturing for the former Mayor of Kamwenge Geoffrey Byamukama who was accused of involvement in the murder of Felix Kaweesi. Byamukama was arrested, tortured and detained for five months before he was released without charge.
