Police officer In Gold Scam Arrested

By Serestino Tusingwire

Police have arrested the Kampala North Regional CID Wilber Wanyama for allegedly involving himself in stealing gold worth $11000.

The police spokesperson AIGP Felix Kaweesi while in a press conference today at Naguru police headquarters revealed that Wanyama was on Friday arrested and detained at SIU, Kireka over gold swindling.

“Preliminary information we have is that we have in detention our own Kampala North Regional CID Wilber Wanyama who was allegedly involved in gold scandal recently.

According to Kaweesi, the whole story went like this; one licensed mineral dealer boarded a boda-boda heading home, on getting off the boda-boda, the rider took off with the bag of gold prompting the businessman to report the case to Old Kampala for follow up.

The boda-boda rider was later arrested and revealed that he had sold the gold to Pakistanis for 11,000 US Dollars.

The Pakistanis later returned the gold and the money was returned by the boda-boda rider but police played with it.

Wanyama and another investigating officer who is apparently on the run allegedly got involved and exhibited fake money.

Kaweesi however said, police is hunting for him and the two will be taken to court to answer charges against them.
