The officer in charge of Abako police post in Alebtong district Corporal Anthony Ogwal has been arrested hours after the death of a 22-year old man he allegedly shot.
He reportedly shot and severely injured Daniel Odongo, a resident of Abako trading centre and a former student of Buluge Comprehensive School last night after he failed to heed to a police directive to stop for an ordinary check. Odongo was rushed to Alanyi health centre II where he breathed his last early today.
Manshur Suwed, Central North regional police spokesperson says Odongo was moving in the group of three people but when they were asked to stop, he reportedly took off promoting the police personnel on patrol to shoot at him.
He added that the deceased succumbed to severe bullet wounds that caused deep internal bleeding.
Ogwal was picked by a team of personnel from Central North regional headquarters in Lira and is being held at Alebtong Central Police station.
Investigations are underway although Manshur confirms that a murder charge has been preferred against Ogwal.
