Parliament to lobby for improved Maternal Health — Kadaga
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has pledged to lobby government to deliver better maternal health services to the population.
Officiating at the Basamia Bugwe Run for Maternal Healthcare in Lumino, Busia District, on Saturday 29th October, 2016, the Speaker acknowledged the urgent need to address poor maternal health facilities throughout the country.
“We have to speak with one voice and raise awareness to support and improve maternal health; we have to see to it that the number of mothers who die while delivering children reduces drastically,” Kadaga said.
She added that Parliament will continue to lobby government for the provision of better maternal healthcare services.
At the same function, Kadaga together with the Katikiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, opened an Antenatal Ward at Lumino Health Centre III, after the run.
Kadag in addition donated six hospital beds and Mama kits for Lumino and Mutumba Health Centre IIIs.
The Run, which attracted about 400 participants under the theme “Run for Women and Girls -Improve Maternal Health” had two sections of 12 km and 8 km stretches respectively.
