Onyango Wants To Forget Togo

Dennis OnyangoUganda Cranes first choice goalkeeper Dennis Onyango seems to be slowly shaking off an ankle sprain he suffered up when he twisted it Tuesday evening.

The Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper, despite limping off in the last five minutes of Tuesday training, completed Wednesday’s session at Namboole.

Onyango will hope to continue the recovery so he is fit in time for Saturday’s must-win Nations Cup qualifier against Ghana.

Only victory will keep Uganda in the race with a realistic chance after the Cranes somewhat lost the plot when they lost to Togo back-to-back and consequently fell four points behind Ghana’s eight.

“Of course we know that this game is very important for us,” admitted Onyango, “adding, “We know we must win it to keep our chances of qualifying on.” Uganda’s final qualifier is away to Guinea, and they must also win it.

“We know we should never have lost against Togo here and now we put ourselves in a difficult situation. We want to forget Togo disappointments by winning against Ghana.

“It is tough (beating Ghana and Guinea) but for us it is a challenge. We need to win our next two games and we shall qualify, we are hopeful we shall and we are preparing towards that.”

Ghana currently top Group E with eight points from four games, Togo six, Uganda and Guinea of four apiece.
