NSSF Praised After Shs50M Volleyball Sponsorship

Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club president Mofaht Masaba couldn’t contain his content after his club unveiled the biggest volleyball deal in the country. The package, a 100% increment from last year’s total sponsorship was announced today at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) main head offices at Workers’ House in Kampala.

With the 18th edition of the KAVC International due this weekend, sponsors NSSF increased their package to sh50 up from sh25m last year for the 2014.

“This is without a doubt this a great gesture from our sponsors, NSSF. With an increased winners’ purse and foreign clubs will add a lot to the competition,” tells Red Pepper Online edition.

At a press conference at their headquarters at Workers House in Kampala, the funds acting head of marketing Edgar Birungi said that they had chosen to continue sponsoring the championship to nurture the youth and enhance its competitiveness in the annual event.

“As one of our objectives towards the social corporate responsibility target, we have doubled the package from last year’s. This money will go to the overall organization of the tournament,” Birungi said.

The sponsorship will cater for organization of the annual volleyball showpiece, tournament equipment, officials’ fees, trophies, publicity and prize money for the winners and finalists for both the men’s and women’s teams.

The winning teams will each pocket Shs1.3m and Shs0.7m for the runners up in either gender while loal divas Cindy Sanyu, Irene Ntale and Jackie Chandiru will spice up the two-day event that has Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and Namboole Outdoor volleyball courts as its 2 auxillary the main indoor stadium at Lugogo is the main venue.

Local teams in Sport-S, Sky and hosts KAVC will be flag bearers in a territory that is slowly being dominated by the Rwandans. Rwandan outfit Inatek , Kigali Volleyball Club, another Rwandan side and newly formed Rayon Sport, have registered to compete. Tanzania’s Jeshi Stars and Rukinzo from Burundi The organisers are still waiting on confirmation from Kenyan sides.

Last year, Rwanda’s Inatek won the men’s contest after beating Kenya’s Administration Police 3-1 while Nkumba University ladies Volleyball team defied all the odds to win its first NSSF KAVC International Volleyball tourney after beating the tournament hosts, KAVC 3-2 in a vivacious final played at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
