Nakawa Chief Magistrate to visit Besigye in Prison
Nakawa Court chief Magistrate Mr Eremye Mawanda will visit former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye in Luzira prison next week.
This comes on the heels of the complaints by Dr Besigye on Monday that his rights as a prisoner are being abused by prison authorities.
“As a political leader, I tried to send out a Ramadan message but I was informed that I don’t have that right,” Besigye said before asking court to direct prison authorities to allow him send out messages to the outside world.
Mr Eremye Mawanda will be assessing Besigye’s living conditions and validity of his complaints.
Besigye, a four time presidential candidate who is facing treason charges has been behind cells since early May.
Delay in Investigations
Besigye asked government to expedite investigations into the case.
“I am extremely disturbed by the delayed investigations in this case. If they have any case, which I doubt, let them present it,” Besigye complained.
This prompted to Mr. Eremye to remind prosecution to ensure that investigations are completed soon. The case was adjourned until July 13.
