Luweero Accident Death Toll Rises to 10

Police in Luweero have finally managed to indentify the casualties in Saturday’s deadly accident which involved a taxi registration number UAL. 336W and a Toyota Land Cruiser registration number UAU 197W.

Meanwhile the death toll has also increased from eight to 10 according to Willy Abaha, the Luweero Traffic Officer.

He identifies most of the deceased by one name including; Katindo, Nsereko, Nalule, Luzinda, Sebuliba, John who was the taxi driver, Nabarye, Nakaweesi, Oliver [a juvenile] and Phionah Nanyonjo all residents in Mukono district.

Abaha further identifies the injured as Goretti Namale, Joshua Male and Ntambi Lawrence (Juvenile) admitted  at Kiwoko hospital in Nakaseke district.

He adds that Nakalembe and Patrick Kaweesi are also admitted at Njovu clinic in Wobulenzi.

An Indian national only identified as Nsanga who was in the land cruiser was evacuated to Nakasero hospital. He says Frank Amenya, who was the driver of the land cruiser is admitted at Mulago national referral hospital.

Agaba says the recorded number of injured is seven. He says it is difficult to identify the injured because many did not have any identification on them.

The bodies of the deceased are at Kasana Health Center IV mortuary where they are being claimed.

In the catastrophic incident, eight people died on the spot and at least five others were seriously injured in the accident at Kaswa about 30 kilometers into Luweero along Kampala-Gulu highway following a head-on collision of the two vehicles.

The taxi, which was travelling from Luweero to Kampala, is said to have been transporting people who are related. The land cruiser was coming from Kampala. The cars suffered a head on collision as the land cruiser tried to overtake a trailer.
