Kooki Chiefdom on the Spot over Shs13Bn

The leadership of Kooki Chiefdom has come under the spotlight for allegedly misusing Shs13bn meant for the construction of a mosque, health centre, a primary and Secondary school in Kibaale Muslim community.

According to a source, the Kamuswaga Apollo Ssansa through Allied community development Initiative (ACODI) sent a proposal United Arab Emirates in 2011 seeking funding for the aforementioned projects.

The juicy proposal was supported by Sheikh Adam Mbaziira then acting Secretary for Education and Services Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

Sheik Mbaziira wrote a recommendation letter convincing UAE Prince Ahme al Balooshi to fund the project. On April 18, 2012, Mbaziira wrote a letter instructing the Managing Director Stanbic Bank to release 2, 215,741,856 part of the money that was sent to the account number 0140052797001 Stanbic Banka Kyotera branch.

On April 19, 2012, the Kamuswaga confirmed through his letter he sent to the President that he had met Prince Ahmed Ali Balooshi who showed interest in carrying out development projects in his chiefdom adding that part of the project money had been withheld by Stanbic Bank officials.

On April 27, 2012, the Kamuswaga wrote a letter instructing the Manager Stanbic Bank Kyotera to release the money saying the President was aware that the chiefdom had received funds from UAE.

Muslims from Kibaale Muslim community led by Sheikh Musa Lukyamuzi and Haruna Lukokerwa told Red Pepper the projects have never kicked off despite the fact that they were to run for only 24 months. Lukyamuzi added that when they contacted the Obwakamuswaga, they told them that they were given fake money.

When contacted for comment, the Katikkiro Hajji Idd Kiwanuka declined to comment on the matter.
