Kirumira Won’t Answer To Rolex Charge

The heavy load on ex DPC Mohammad Kirumira’s shoulders is lighter right now after Police dropped more charges he was facing in a disciplinary court.

One of the charges dropped was the infamous one of eating a rolex that was not his. This charge was dropped because the owner of the rolex who at the same time was the complainant, a one Ibra Bukenya lost interest in the case.

Police disciplinary tribunal chairperson, Dennis Odongpiny, said the charges of irregular conduct and unlawful or unnecessary exercise of authority against Kirumira were dropped because the witnesses lost interest in the matter.

Its not clear whether, before Kirumira was arrested and charged, the police was aware that key witnesses had lost interest in these particular complaints they had filed with Police.

The Police had alleged that Kirumira, while at Old Kampala Station, together with other Police officers on January 7 2013 in Kihindi zone Kawempe, arrested Ibra Bukenya, a hawker, beat him with a baton and took his Rolex and ate it. But Odongpiny told Court that Bukenya was no longer interested in the matter and Kirumira wont have to answer to that particular charge.

In another Kirumira is accused of extorting Shs300,000 from a hawker. Then in another case, Meddie Nsubuga also claimed that Kirumira extorted Shs85,000 and detained him for over a week without putting him to trial.

Police had earlier dropped two offences of conduct unbecoming of a police officer against Kirumira for lack of evidence.

Kirumira will return to the Police court on March 20 when more cases against him will be read out.
