KCCA ‘Killer’ Driver Given Bail

A driver attached to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) who recently knocked a two-year old baby Ryan Ssemaganda is out on bail.

Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Lillian Bucyana released Anwali Baguma on a cash bail of Ugx 2 million while his three sureties were each bonded at Ugx 5million not cash. He had spent three weeks on remand.

The accused is facing charges of causing death through careless driving which he pleaded not guilty to.

The driver was arraigned before court, a few days after he allegedly ran over the baby whose mother Madinah Namutebi had been apprehended by KCCA law enforcement officers for hawking merchandise on the streets of Kampala.

The child, who needed the mother’s presence, later crawled beneath the parked car and remained unattended to. Moments later he was run over and killed.

Prosecution states that on November 18, at KCCA parking yard,  Baguma while reversing motor vehicle registration number LG 0428-01, without due consideration knocked a male juvenile, Ssemaganda who had taken refuge under the vehicle when his mother was being arraigned before Court.

The driver returns to court on December 16 for mention of his case.
