Uganda Premier League Champions KCCA FC on Monday morning traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ahead of their first leg CAF Total Champions League first round game against hosts St. George.

The team traveled aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight ahead of the game to take place at the Addis Ababa National Stadium on Wednesday.

“We are going to battle to try and get a good result before the return leg in Kampala. I am happy that some of my players who have been out injured Muzamir Mutyaba and Julius Poloto have recovered in time,” said head coach Mike Hillary Mutebi.

KCCA FC who eliminated Madagascar’s CNaps in the preliminary round last month will however miss the services of gifted midfielder Saddam Ibrahim Juma who is sidelined with injury.

Mutebi who guided KCCA FC to the group stage of the 2017 CAF Confederations Cup said that the away leg means a lot to them because every team normally plays better at home. Uganda Cranes second choice goalkeeper Robert Ondongkara also features for the Ethiopian giant side St. George.

KCCA FC will look to key players like Derrick Nsibambi, scorer of Uganda Cranes only goal at the 2018 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), midfielder Mutyaba and striker Muhammad Shaban.

The Champions league is the most lucrative tournament for top African teams that excel in their respective Leagues at home, while the CAF Confederations Cup is meant for teams that win the Knock out Cups in their countries.

The other teams in the Cecafa region still in the competition include Gor Mahia (Kenya), Rayon Sport (Rwanda), Young African (Tanzania) and Al-Hilal (Sudan).

In Morocco the Champions League Cup holders Wydad Casablanca will host Cote dÍvoire’s Williamsville AC at the Stade Mohammed V Stade in Casablanca on Wednesday in the first leg. Another Moroccan side Difaa El Jadidi will host DR Congo’s AS Vita Club at the Stade El Abdi El-Jadida Stadium.
