Okoth Martins Ochola, the Inspector General of Police has named a new commander for the Flying Squad a month after redeploying Herbert Muhangi and disolving his entire team.
A month ago a radio message was sent ordering all flying squad team members to report to CID Kibuli. Most of them reported and were debriefed and asked to apply and told to await further communication.
And last night in another police message by the Human Resources Department, D/SSP Peter Kakonge was named the new FSU commander.
Until today, Kakonge has been a detective stationed at CID Headquarters in Kibuli.
The FSU, before its disbandment had been buffeted by allegations that its members had become hired hit men in town and many were engaging in extortion and abuse of office and torture.
In the new reshuffle, Ochola also shuffled up many CID detectives.
D/ACP Isaac Oketcho has been moved from Media Crimes at CID headquarters to Special Investigations Department (SID) Kireka as Acting ACP Commercial Transactional crimes.
D/SSP Peter Muwonge leaves CID headquarters to serve as trainer of detectives while Hosea Manyindo will now head media crimes section, taking over from Oketcho.
D/SSP Okello Obura moves from CID headquarters to Kiira police as Regional CID officer while D/SSP Sulaiman Kabuye has been reinstated and transferred to Rwenzori as regional CID officer.
