The head teacher of Agule primary school in Asuret sub-county, Soroti district was on Tuesday arrested by police for allegedly defiling a pupil from his school.
Gabriel Esone (59) years has been accused for allegedly defiling a 16 year old girl a primary seven pupil in his school.
Esone is a father of eleven children. His wife, however, does not live with him and remains at their ancestral home.
Ayub Waswa the officer in charge criminal investigations department attached to Soroti police station confirmed the headmaster’s arrest.
He declined to give details saying they were still investigating the matter.
Ayub said that if the investigations prove that the head teacher defiled he will be produced before courts of law to face defilement charges.
According to Soroti police station report from January to March a total of 106 defilement cases were recorded and three were aggravated cases.
Martin Epila (48) years, the father of the victim and L.C. 1 chairman Acanidiang village, says Esone was caught red-handed defiling his daughter in his house within the school compound.
Epila says that after fetching water on Monday evening at 9:00pm, her brothers discovered she had escaped from her bed past midnight.
Epila says that since they had heard rumours that Esone was trying to lure the girl into sex, they staked out his house. She was seen emerging from the house at 5:30am. She was in the company of Esone.
Epila and concerned neighbours then apprehended Esone and reported the matter to police.
