Gyan who missed the first game because of a fever had two missed chances in the game played at the Mongomo Stadium, but took the last shot of the game that decided the match. He beat Algerian goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi with a well taken low shot.

The Desert Fennecs dominated the first half with lots of ball possession, but the Ghana defenders stood firm. Ghana’s Afriyie Acquah and Bougurra Madjid (Algeria) were cautioned for bad fouls.

After the interval Black Stars came back strongly to attack in numbers. After 52 minutes Gyan’s header missed by inches before Jordan Ayew’s back-heel also missed the target.

However, Ghana was on the receiving end in the 66th minute when Nabil Bentaleb’s shot missed the target. Algeria seemed to take control of the game, but two teams made attacks on each side. Ghana coach Avram Grant made two tactical changes bringing on Mahatma Otoo and Asante which made Ghana more fluid.

The final moment came after fourth official had showed added time and Gyan struck to ensure Ghana walked away with maximum points.

Ghana who lost their first game to Senegal now need to beat South Africa in their last Group C game next week to book a place in the last eight.
