A host of big-name Kampala City Council stars could leave the club for nothing even before the end of this month, so the head coach of the Uganda league champions, George Nsimbe, is a worried man.

With the end of every Ugandan football season comes the prospect of a fresh new start in the 10 months to come, and many footballers will get the chance to tee themselves up for a brand new beginning in 2014/15 televised league.

The FIFA Bosman rule allows those players whose current contract expires to speak with new clubs in a bid to secure a pre-contract agreement ahead of a move but I wonder whether players like Tom Matsiko and Gaddafi Kiwanuka would love to move to another Ugandan club given the superiority and financial advantage that the Lugogo side enjoys here.

Back to Lugogo, Nsimbe, who will lead KCCA FC to the 2014 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship in Rwanda next month and the 2015 CAF Champions League, told reporters that he is worried management has been slow in renewing the contracts of certain players.

“I have already notified management about the urgency of renewing contracts of some key players because other teams may snatch them. Yes, some players are asking for lots of money to renew their contracts, but I hope this matter is sorted out by Friday,” added Nsimbe.

“I have told management also renew Odur and Birungi’s contracts as a priority because he is key to the team,” added the former Cranes midfielder.

The other players whose contracts run out include Shaka Mpiima, Richard Malinga, and goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato.

The 2014/2015 Ugandan league season is expected to start in September. Besides KCCA FC, the other teams expected to challenge in the new season include 2014 CECAFA Nile Basin Cup winners SC Victoria University and Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club who are all
