Five more sports Associations/Federations which include; Rugby, Cricket, Baseball, Darts and Lacrosse were on Friday 29th Sept 2017 awarded certificates of recognition in compliance with the new sports regulations set by National council of Sports (NCS).
The move brings the total number of recognized Federations/Associations by NCS to 39. The handover ceremony was presided over by National council of Sports general secretary, Nicholas Muramagi at the one day NCS Workshop with registered national sports associations in Uganda at MTN Arena Lugogo.
Muramagi handed over the certificates to Rugby union president Andrew Owor, George Mukhobe of Baseball, Justine Ligyalingi of Cricket and Darts association Secretary David Tabaro.
Talking to pepper sport, Andrew Owor said that Uganda Rugby Union is happy with the certificate because it shows that NCS verified their administration and found it fit to manage the sport in Uganda.
In April 2014 government passed into a law a statutory instrument under the NCS sports act which required existing national sports associations to apply. According to NCS general secretary, compliancy will help NCS support its members who for the very first time in history have their own legal standings.
“Federations have roles to play in their respective constitutions and we are still sticking to exercising on our mandate and settings priorities,” Muramagi said.
