Crystal Palace Release Ibra Sekajja

English-Ugandan professional footballer Ibra Sekajja who plays as a striker for English Premier League side Crystal Palace has been released from the club following the expiration of his contract.

Sekajja’s contract is due to end this summer and the club was obliged not to renew his contract and other 12 team members read a statement on the Crystal Palace website.

‘Crystal Palace Football Club have confirmed their retained list ahead of the 2014/15 season, with 12 players set to leave the club when their contracts expire next month’ was part of the message posted on the website.

Sekajja served as a development striker and was not part of the first team that played in the Barclays Premier League in which Crystal Palace finished 11th.

His last game before the release was in Crystal Palace’s U21 Premier Development League 2 South table 2-1 loss to Cardiff City were Sekajja was a substitute midway through the first half.

He was summoned by Uganda Cranes Coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ ahead of the International friendly with Egypt last year in August but because he lacked a Ugandan passport his call-up was put on hold.

Ibra Sekajja was born in Kampala on 31st, October 1992 at Mulago. He spent a few years in Uganda before he flew to England where he attended secondary school at Ashburton Community School from 2004 to 2009.

Sekajja made his professional debut for Crystal Palace on 30 April 2011, scoring a late equaliser with his first touch on his debut at Hull City, which secured Palace’s safety in the Championship, rendering other results irrelevant.

He celebrated with a triple backflip.He was loaned to Bromley midway through the 2011–12 season, to gain first team experience. Milton Keynes Dons signed Sekajja on loan on 7 November 2012.

Manager Karl Robinson said of the move, “He’s exactly what we need in the team at the moment . he is young, fearless and fast.”

On 24 November 2012 he made his only appearance for the side, coming on as an 84th minute substitute for Dean Bowditch in a 5–1 win against Colchester United.

On 10 January 2013, Sekajja joined Barnet on a one-month loan.Sekajja made a winning start to his Barnet career, playing the whole game in an away 2–0 win against Rotherham United, on 12 January 2013.Following his “impressive” debut, manager Edgar Davids said “I expect that he is going to be a great asset for the team. I hope he develops himself in the line that I think he can and he can become an important player for Barnet.”
