Cholera Breaks Out In Moyo

The Ministry Health has confirmed an outbreak of cholera in Moyo district that has so far affected 13 people in Dufile Sub County.
The disease outbreak was first reported a week ago after a number of patients reported at Dufile Health Centre III experiencing fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea and vomiting resulting into dehydration.
Dr Michael Adrawa, the district assistant health officer who confirmed the outbreak, said samples from the victims taken for tests and the ministry confirmed it.
Dr Adrawa attributed its transmission to poor sanitation and hygiene practices like not washing hands after using toilets and before eating or handling food and drinking contaminated water.
He said a team of experts from the ministry, World Health Organization and the Uganda Red Cross Society was informed immediately of the outbreak for support as the district personnel on the ground started helping.
Ten patients who were admitted have been discharged while the health authorities are now embarking on village-to-village campaigns to sensitize the residents.
Dr Adrawa says the disease is now spread to the neighboring Metu sub county in West Moyo County.
In April this year, a similar outbreak was also reported in Gimara, Lefori and Aliba sub counties.
