Leader of Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) Jamil Mukulu has been remanded to Luzira prison following his 14 month detention in police cells.

The Jinja Magistrate Court on Tuesday charged Mukulu with treason and murder and sent him on remand at Luzira maximum security prison amidst heavy security.

The ADF leader has since mid last year been detained at Nalufenya police station, one of the most feared police stations in the country located on the banks of Rive Nile.

According to the Human rights lawyer Ladislaus Rwakafuzi, keeping Mukulu in police facilities was illegal since the law only requires a suspect to be detained at police for 48 hours.

It was not until yesterday when Mukulu was officially remanded to a lawful government prison.

Mukulu is facing a number of criminal charges including murder, treason, terrorism which he committed over two decades back when he was still a rebel leader.
