MAWOKOTA: Mawokota South Member of Parliament (MP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Prof. Yusuf Nsibambi has donated a full set of road maintenance equipment for regular grading of roads in his constituency.
In less than a year since he assumed office as an MP ,Nsibambi who promised ‘Mawokota Empya’, literally meaning a ‘New Mawokota’ has donated equipment comprising of a heavy –duty -Grader, Wheel loader, Roller and excavator making his Mpigi the second District after Kampala to have such machines in the country.
Speaking to our reporter ,Nsibambi explained that it was part of his campaign promises to initiate an all year round grading of roads in areas that make up his constituency prompting him to purchase the road maintenance equipment and asked the people to make judicious use of them.
“As a resident I was at all times concerned and shocked at the level of dilapidation of roads in our constituency. I promised that if I was voted in as representative, I would do my best to ensure that the roads are maintained all year round. This is in fulfillment of that promise,” Nsibambi noted that rough roads will be just a bad memory.
The on hand road maintenance equipment has overwhelmed the department of works as every sub county, town councils and individuals keep requesting for the machines to grade their roads but with the help of the new road maintenance equipment donated by Nsibambi, more new roads will be opened in Mawokota.
Nsibambi further said that coordinators will be appointed for the parishes and each sub-county area in the constituency to ensure that the aim of acquiring the equipment was actualized.
‘’Road maintenance will be very easy now and the authorities in Mawokota will respond to emergencies in case of a damaged road due to weather conditions and other urgent situation’’, said one of the local leaders.
His counterpart, Mpigi district Woman MP Hon. Nambooze Teddy has described the donation as an infrastructure empowerment for Mpigi as that has saying it will help build the district’s capacity to maintain its road infrastructure.
It should be noted that sustainable roads connect people to jobs, education and health, boost inter-district integration, link communities to income-generating markets, expand economic growth, and decrease poverty.
Nsibambi, a Former Makerere don promised a significant development under his term in office immediately after swearing-in last year.
His ‘Mawokota Empya’ Project covers; Infrastructure Development, functionalizing health, Education improvement, Women and youth empowerment among other programs.
