Kabamba, Mubende: President Yoweri Museveni has passed out 1143 Army Officers after they successfully concluded their training course at the Uganda Military Academy, Kabamba in Mubende District.

According to UPDF, the Young Officer Cadets intake 5/2020-2021 were drawn from different in-service units of the UPDF; 272 (UMAK), 126 from the Air force who included 52 Pilots Cadets, 317 (SOI-Bihanga), 426 (NCOA-Jinja), one Officer Cadet from Kenya Military Academy and one Officer Cadet from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

The President who is also the Commander in Chief of the armed forces said leaders must be equal or greater than the number of troops under their command.

He also congratulated the graduands and warned them against living loose lifestyles, Alcohol and drug abuse noting that they they should remain healthy during their time of service in the Army.

‘’You join as health soldiers and we want you to remain healthy for 21 years. This is a business and not a hospital. We plan for soldiers for 21 years and instead of becoming an asset you become a liability in hospital, treatment, absenteeism etc,” Museveni said.

The commanding officer Uganda Military Academy Brig. C.M. Byaruhanga revealed that this is the largest number in the history of UPDF to commission after the eighth intake in 2002.

General David Muhoozi, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) expressed thanks to the President for supporting the continuous improvement of the UPDF Army.

Muhoozi congratulated the UPDF Officers and their colleagues from the region for undertaking and successfully completing their training programme.

Brig. Gen Charles Byaruhanga, the Commandant of the Uganda Military Academy (UMA) Kabamba congratulated the officers upon effectively finishing the Training at the Academy through hard work and discipline an endurance .
