Parliament – The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has issued out new guidelines amidst the outbreak of COVID-19.
While speaking to the legislators during a plenary session Thursday, March 19, she revealed that the coronavirus was a disease of congestion.
” I urge that members may have to vacate the Chamber and conduct business in the conference hall because we may have to sit one metre from each other. We expect that the clerk will handle that so we move next week,” said Rt. Hon. Kadaga.
She added: “We have requested temperature guns from the Ministry of Health. Starting from tomorrow (Friday, March 20); they will be available so that our Members and staff are checked before they reach different parts of Parliament.”
Kadaga sanctioned the Clerk to Parliament to assign someone to remain in the lifts, dispense sanitizers and ensure they check regularly and available in the elevators.
These new measures come barely 24hours since President Museveni suspended public gatherings, church and other ceremonies in addition to closing all institutions amid COVID-19 concerns.
