Dennis Mwemezi was the hero as Vipers SC edged past Proline FC in their 2019 Pilsner Super 8 pre-season encounter played at Lugogo Stadium on Wednesday 31st July.
The industrious striker scored the lone goal on his debut in the team to send Vipers SC into the semifinals where they will play the winner between Mbarara City FC and URA FC who are playing on Friday 2nd August at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara. Proline FC will play the losers of that game.
The win was sweet revenge against Proline FC who dumped Vipers SC out of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the same venue last season en route to winning the trophy.
The game also marked the return of Edward Golola who was named the head coach ahead of the new season replacing Kenyan Michael Ouma Nam whose contract was not renewed.
Right from the onset, Vipers looked the better side attacking relentlessly but on the other hand limiting Proline FC.
They found the back of the net in the 24th minute when Mwemezi jumped high at the far post to head home Azizi Kayondo’s cross from the left-wing.
New arrivals Abdu Karim Watambala (promoted from St. Mary’s Kitende) and Henry Kitegenyi from Kansai Plascon FC also had a brilliant outing on their debut with Watambala being awarded the Man of the Match walking away with a gong and UGX 200,000/- courtesy of sponsors Pilsner Lager.
