A teacher at Spring Fields International in Busabala, off Entebbe road who fled arrest, has finally been arrested on charges of defiling a girl of 8 years old. The prudish teacher known as Jimmy Walugembe dragged the girl in a toilet and defiled her. After the incident, the suspect was hidden by the headteacher known as Moses Mutebi for 3 weeks. He fled on June 21 when police went to arrest him. The police had gone with the victim’s father to the school.
“I went to the school after my daughter told the mother that when she was going for a short call, her teacher called her, took her to the boys’ toilets and defiled her,” the victim’s father, who was in the company of his daughter, said.
The victim’s father said his daughter told him that after the defilement, the teacher allegedly cautioned her not to tell anyone. “When my wife told me, I went and grabbed the teacher, but the headteacher and other teachers took him away from me.
I reported the case to Kibiri Police Post but when we went to arrest him, the teacher had fled,” he said. Upon failing to find the suspect at the school, the police arrested the headmaster to help them in investigations but he was released two days later to trace the teacher.
However, the suspect has been arrested and he is held at Katwe police station. “We arrested him and is currently being held at Katwe Police Station,” Mr. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, said on Saturday. He said the school management helped the police apprehend the suspect.
The police form for medical examination on June 26 confirmed recent sexual penetration and broken hymen. The girl was recommended for PEP (post-HIV exposure treatment) and counseling to help her overcome the trauma.
