The four were picked up on Thursday by Detectives from the Homicide department of the Criminal Investigations Directorate-CID, barely a week after police started investigating circumstances surrounding Nekyon’s death.
The investigations were prompted by a letter Makmot wrote to Grace Akullo, the Director Criminal Investigations Directorate asking her to investigate Nekyon’s death, saying there could have been foul play.
In his letter, Makmot said some family members could have had a hand in Nekyon’s death. Early this week, Nekyon’s sister, Mariam Akullo and her niece recorded statements with the Homicide department. On Wednesday, Grace Akullo summoned Makmot to appear at the Kibuli based CID headquarters at 10am this morning for interrogations over the claims in his letter.
Makmot told URN on Thursday that he was ready to appear before the CID as required. However, he was picked up last evening and locked up at Jinja road police station before he could avail himself. The Police spokesperson in Charge CID, Vincent Ssekate has confirmed the arrest. Yes we have four people in our custody including the lawyer Adam Makmot. They were arrested yesterday,” Ssekate told URN.
He however, didn’t explain why the four were picked up.
The late Nekyon died on May 4th 2018. His family members claimed they only learnt about the death on social media and rushed to different hospital to pick up his body in vain.
Makmot says after failing to trace Nekyon’s body, his clients returned home only to find it there. It was reportedly dropped by unidentified people.
