Police Procures Companies for CCTV Project

The Police Procurement and Disposal of Assets Unit-PPDU is sourcing for companies interested in executing the countrywide Shillings 237 billion Closed Circuit Television-CCTV project.

The move comes after the Directorate of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) provided the specification of the CCTV project to the unit. Given that the project is classified, the Police Procurement and Disposal of Assets Unit can’t advertise it.

“For us our work is done. We made the specification now PPDU has to choose the company and Finance to give the money,” said a source on condition of anonymity. The unit will pick from a few selected companies to execute the project.

The Acting Director ICT Uganda Police Force, Felix Baryamwisaki declined to comment on the procurement, saying it was classified.

Despite the fact that the procurement process is ongoing, the Finance Ministry is yet to avail the money required for the project.

According to the police policy statement for the 2018/2019 financial year, not even a coin has been availed for this project.

During the vigil of former police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi on March 2017, president, Yoweri Museveni directed the Finance Ministry to avail money for installing CCTV Cameras in Kampala, Wakiso and highways to the rest of the District.

The CCTV system is meant to help boost security monitoring across the country.
