UCC Asks ISPs To Block Unlicensed Websites
Uganda Communications Commission has ordered Internet Service Providers to block access to unauthorized news websites operating in Uganda.
In a letter dated April 19th, signed by Fred Otunnu on behalf of the Executive Director, UCC provides a list of websites that are approved and those whose applications are pending approval.
“The purpose of this letter therefore is to DIRECT you to IMMEDIATELY SUSPEND the provision of carriage services to any Online Data communication service provider (online/Electronic media News Provider) that is not listed above and or has not presented an authorization certificate or other express clearance from Uganda Communication Commission.”
The order to block websites comes following a notice published by UCC on March 6th, 2018, requiring all online Data Communication Service Providers (online newspaper service providers) to apply and obtain authorization from the Commission.

I wonder how the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) will identify and differentiate between news websites, blogs, digests, magazines, vlogs etc. Secondly this directive suppresses freedom of information for Ugandans.
