Bobi Wine Released from Kira Police

By Serestino Tusingwire

Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine, an independent candidate vying for Kyadondo East MP seat, who was arrested this morning due to unclear reasons has been released.

His release followed excessive pressure exerted to police from  both his supporters and some of his opponents in the race who demanded for his release to do his finally rally peacefully.

Apollo Kantinti, FDC candidate had to put his final campaigns on hold, to go demand for Bobi’s release. He said it is unfair to go through the final day without one of the candidates.

It has however been agreed that Bobi changes his final campaign venue from Kasangati playground to Gayaza.

Before his release, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Frank Mwesigwa had this to say; “We haven’t arrested Bobi wine, we were engaging him. We have agreed on a new venue in Bulamu, Gayaza. His earlier venue violated EC campaign guidelines and he risked being disqualified.”

Speaking on his release, Bobi Wine said; “One thing you can’t change is change. They arrested me and they have released me. In order not to cause a presidential embarrassment, we have agreed to hold our rally in Gayaza.  I don’t want to be a remembered as a violent man. Campaigns have been peaceful. I want my supporters to remain calm.”

The voting is due on Thursday 29th June, 2017.
