I Travel Abroad To Solicit Funding – Kadaga
By Serestino Tusingwire
The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has defended her trips abroad to attend meetings organized by Ugandans in the diaspora saying it was aimed at sourcing for funds to help disadvantaged Ugandans.
“I travelled to Boston to beg for money to build a hospital to treat Fistula patients in Soroti. Last year, the Basoga who stay in Europe built a ward at Jinja hospital,” She said.
“Me when I travel, I go with the aim of getting something in turn in form of material things, knowledge and help of whichever kind.” Kadaga added
She said this last week while speaking in Kalangala and Rakai districts where she handed over medical equipment to the communities.
This came on the heels of president Museveni’s directive to the Prime Minister asking him to start regulating ministerial travels abroad, which are so wasteful.
It’s worth noting that by August last year, records showed that parliament had spent over UGX2bn to facilitate the speaker, her deputy and the delegation and the delegation of lawmakers attending the 28th Ugandan North American Convention (UNAA) in Boston Massachusetts.
