University Council calls off Meeting with Lecturers

The Makerere University Council has called off a meeting it was supposed to have with the teaching staff on Monday afternoon.

The meeting was to discuss possible date for the reopening of the university and other related issues.

This was going to be the first time for the lecturers to be involved in finding solutions to what forced for the indefinite closure of the university since November 1.

According to Dr. Deus Muhwezi, the MUASA spokesperson the U-turn was a result of university council seeking to make further consultations before meeting lecturers’ association.

“The consultative meeting has been postponed until further consultations of university council have been concluded,” Muhwezi said.

President Museveni ordered for the closure of the university following unending strike by lecturers over incentive arrears for now 10 months amounting to Shs28bn.
