The management of Makerere University has resolved that the graduation which was supposed to take place in January be postponed to early march, 2017.
This was reached in a closed door management meeting that took place on Wednesday morning at the university.
The committee headed by Barnabas Nawangwe, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration also resolved that the university be opened on January 02, 2017 to allow students complete the first semester.
“As management, we agreed to open the university on January 2, so as to compensate the lost time and allow students to sit for their exams. We also agreed that graduation takes place in early March. Students will break off for a one-week holiday before the second semester starts,” Nawangwe said.
Management’s resolution now awaits the final decision from the council, the top governing body, so that the university can resume operations on the agreed date.
The university’s academic calendar became compromised when the University was closed on directives of the president following a sit-down strike by lecturers over incentive arrears amounting to Shs28bn.
