Rwenzururu In Flames As Over 50 Royal Guards Are Killed


Uganda Police Force has revealed that over 46 royal guards were killed and 139 detained at Kasese Police Station.

The royal guards were killed during a deadly shooting between UPDF and Royal guards at the Rwenzururu Palace, Kasese District on Sunday afternoon.

UPDF attacked the Palace when the Omusinga Charles Wisely Mumbere failed to honour the two hour ultimatum of disbanding and disarming the royal guards.

Brig Peter Elwelu, the UPDF 2nd Division Commander revealed that the operations will continue until they crack down all the camps belonging to the royal guards.

Police spokesman Andrew Felix Kaweesi said 14 police officers lost their lives in the battle.

Upon the raid, Omusinga wa Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere was arrested and airlifted to Kampala
