Over 60,000 to Sit UBTEB Exams on Monday

A total of 60,310 registered students are expected to sit for November/December 2016 Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) scheduled to begin on Monday in 387 centers countrywide.

The examinations which will last for three weeks up to December 16th will see candidates sit for both certificate  and diploma Examinations in National technical Craft and Uganda Community polytechnic, Agriculture, Business, Fisheries, Cooperatives,  Meteorology, Wildlife, Lands survey  among others.

Addressing Journalists on Friday at their offices in Ntinda, the board’s executive secretary Onesmus Oyesigye said this year’s number of candidates has increased from last year’s  55,533 to 60,310  representing 10% increase in the eleventh series of Examinations conducted by UBTEB.

This will be the highest number to sit for UBTEB Examinations in the country-something attributed to the government’s free will towards vocational training and the takeover of all training programs that were previously examined by UNEB, MUBS and other tertiary institutions.

“A total of 1,295 practical examiners will be deployed across the country to mark on spot practical examinations of technical, business and ICT courses, “he added.

Oyesigye cautioned against exam multi-practices saying whoever is caught will be dealt with accordingly, vowing that instructors who will be caught aiding students will have their certificates revoked immediately. He added that, 400 scouts have been sent to various centers to monitor the examinations and as well as 1000supervisors to ensure vigilance.

“The board strictly calls upon all candidates to guard against involvement in any examination malpractice because the board has put in place all measures to handle such cases with the help of Uganda police.” Oyesigye cautioned.

To avoid delays due to weather disruptions, being a rainy season, Oyesigye revealed that all the necessary materials required for examinations have already been delivered to their respective centers.

UBTEB was formed in 2009 to set, examine and administer business and technical education, formerly handled by the Uganda National Examinations Board, UNEB. This was to enhance efficiency. Unlike UNEB, UBTEB continuously assesses the candidates and a huge percentage of the examinable content is practical work as opposed to the theory dominated classroom education.
