MPs condemn UPDF For Kasese Massacre

MPs from the Rwenzururu kingdom have condemned the UPDF for raiding the King’s palace and arresting the Omusinga.

“It is unfortunate that people died in cold blood; Lives that would have been saved couldn’t be saved,” said the Leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza who is also the Kasese District Woman MP.

“This is not the matter that the central government cannot resolve on their own without co-operation from the local leaders,” said Geoffrey Bigogo, Kasese District LCV chairman.

Winnie Kiiza asked government not to act in a manner that may further escalate the tensions and demanded the immediate release of the Omusinga.

“The King was just given minutes to surrender!! It is unfortunate, it is so sad and we know there was violation of human rights.”

On Sunday, the UPDF and Police in a joint operation raided the palace of the Omusinga in the fierce fighting, over 50 royal guards were killed, 139 detained and 14 officers put out of action.
