Kiggundu Should Be Charged With Treason — Besigye
By Serestino Tusingwire
FDC stronghold, Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has said that the outgoing Electoral Commission chairman Eng. Badru Kiggundu should be charged with treason over organizing what he described as sham elections and consistently declaring Museveni as the President of Uganda.
Besigye said this shortly after appearing before the Kampala High Court registrar today as part of his bail condition.
Kiggundu’s 14year tenure is running out on November 17 and Museveni is expected to appoint new commissioners who would be vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament before assuming office.
One of people rumoured to be in pole position to replace Kiggundu is the former Nakawa MP Fred Ruhindi.
However, as it has been in Kiggundu’s term where he was not trusted by many Ugandans, it seems that his successor will inherit the same.
People argue that as long as the EC boss is appointed by the President, it’s obvious that he/she has to favour him in order to keep his job.
