Mutebile Signature Disorganises Ugandans
By Alex Masereka
Ugandan citizens have been left confused by a signature of the Central Bank boss, Tumusiime Mutebile on a press release with many wondering whether it actually belongs to him of someone else.
The discussion was prompted Thursday by a press release signed by the Bank of Uganda (BoU) governor announcing that the central bank had placed the country’s third biggest bank, Crane Bank in receivership after running into deep financial trouble.
Many were forced to take snapshots of their banknotes that bare Mutebile’s signature and compare with the one on the press release.
Nyanjura Doreen, an FDC honcho wrote, “These Signatures are different!” and share copies of the release and banknotes on her Facebook wall.
“Why is it that Mutebile’s signatures are different?” wondered Mirembe Rachael who made her bewilderment known on her twitter timeline.
Shawn Mubiru wrote, “Now Check this Signature one here! There must be a race in who knows his signature better.”
However, BoU through its twitter handle explained the difference in signature saying:
“Some ppl have observed 2 different signatures by the Governor. Both r authentic; 1 being for documents& the other specifically for banknotes.”
Meanwhile, Kizza Besigye, the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party presidential candidate has been making ‘frequent’ visits to the embattled bank raising speculation that he could have got intelligence that institution was on life support waiting to become extinct.
