Police in Namutumba District rescued a 28-year-old man from an angry mob that wanted to lynch him over allegations that he defiled his four months-old stepdaughter.
It is reported that the accused who is a resident of Nabitula village, Ivukula sub-county in Namutumba District, defiled a 4-months toddler when her mother Naomi Namiyangu had gone to attend to her garden near their home.
It is said that when Namiyangu returned from the garden, her daughter was crying.
She tried to breastfeed the baby in an attempt to silence her but in vain.
On checking the baby, she discovered that she was bleeding from her private parts.
The accused had earlier been left with the baby as the mother went to the garden.
According to the Nabitula village chairperson, Samson Nabongho, the accused was arrested after the mother of the victim reported him to authorities, but before the police came, the mob was busy punishing him for his shameful act.
