Makindye General Court Martial chaired by Lt Gen Andrew Gutti has set the 8th November 2016 for commencement of the trial of Nakawa Municipality MP, Michael Kabaziguruka and 24 others who are charged with treachery.
Although Kabaziguruka had vowed never to appear before this court for wasting his time, on Tuesday he appeared in dock alongside his co-accused.
The lead Prosecutor Maj. Raphael Mugisha informed court that investigations in the matter are complete and asked for the hearing date to be set.
Defense counsels Eugene Kabagambe and Maj Asha Patra asked court to order the state to disclose to them in time all documents they intend to rely on in this trial which court did.
Kabaziguruka, who is currently on remand at Kigo Prison rushed to High court seeking to be released on bail pending the hearing of his appeal case in the Court of Appeal, where he challenges court martial’s powers to try civilians on political offences.
High court judge Justice Yasin Nyanzi set the 20th October as the date for hearing this bail application.
