Police is heartless and unprofessional – Cardinal Wamala
By Serestino Tusingwire
Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala has condemned the way Uganda police treated the piglets that were brought to parliament last week by the jobless brotherhood in protest of the government’s decision to give Shs200 million to each MP for a new car.
While speaking at the Mass to celebrate the 68th anniversary of Ggoli Catholic Parish in Kamengo Sub-county, Mpigi District, on Sunday, Cardinal said taking pigs to Parliament cannot solve unemployment.
“They (youth) would have used other avenues to express their dissatisfaction,” Cardinal Wamala said, adding that the action diminished the value of the MPs and portrayed police as heartless and unprofessional.
One of the piglets, branded Kato Lubwama, the Rubaga South MP, was tortured to death by police officers on duty.
Cardinal Wamala has joined a growing chorus of animal rights activists condemning security operatives treated the piglets that way.
The protest was intended to portray the MPs as greedy.
This was the second time members of Jobless Brotherhood were taking piglets to Parliament. In June 2014, they managed to smuggle two piglets into the parking lot of Parliament protesting corruption and youth unemployment.
